How long does it normally take for a movie to come out on DVD?

I am talking about a movie in the theaters. I know it takes a few months but exactly how many? I am asking this because of Twilight. I am addicted to this movie even though it wasn; the best, and I want to kep watching it, but that would be a waste of my money. How long must I wait?
