I-130 approved in 2001. now living overseas. i dont rmbr if i chose consulate proces/adj. status. how to check?

i would like to do consulate processing now since i am back in my home country. do i still have to file for I-824? how do i find out if my case is for adjustment of status or consulate processing? my priority date is sept 01, according to the visa bulletin it will be current in a few months. do i have to wait till it becomes current before filing I-824 and if filing I-824, will i still be able to visit the US?
