License reinstatement?

My son was charged with 2 moving violations in 2002 and 2004. His license was suspended and he attended a driver retraining course in 2004. He's recently learned that his license is still suspended, although the company doing the retraining course indicated he was all set after the cl. They are no longer in business, records were sent to another company which has been taken over by the State, and we have no evidence of his completion of the cl. He's scheduled to take the cl again next week -- is this the fastest, easiest way of resolving this? The DMV offices will not discuss suspension and everything must be done by mail. By the time they respond, he'll miss the only available cl. Help... I'm tired of being his chauffeur!
